The owls are not amused

You wouldn't be either, if the tree that was your home was cut down and chopped up, and now you're a homeless orphan. Humans raising owls artificially is tricky business. After initial medical treatment, our first priority is getting it with a live, non-releasable conspecific (an adult surrogate of the same species--fortunately we have just such an owl). One of the greatest sins a wildlife rehabber can commit is to raise a baby raptor in such a way that it becomes tame or imprinted on humans. Wouldn't want to let these birds go, only to land on people's heads as adults, begging for food. Conspecific surrogates alleviates that. We'll have pics of that soon. Lastly, when cutting trees down, especially in the spring, please be mindful of the species you may be damaging. We realize that certain trees need to be cut, for safety reasons. We try to seek a balance.
